Real or Fake Stone Island Badge? How to Tell

The compass badge is the most recognisable part of a Stone Island garment. It is also the most copied. Here’s how to assess a badge, and how not to confuse an authentic badge with a “compatible” one.

What to check on a badge

  • The embroidery: dense and even, with no loose threads. The compass (compass rose) is well proportioned, with sharp, symmetrical points.
  • The outline: fine and clean, with no smudging. A thick or uneven border is a bad sign.
  • The fastening buttons: they should carry a cleanly engraved, well-centred and legible “Stone Island” marking. A blurry, off-centre or faint marking is a red flag.
  • The back: a clean backing, with no visible glue or threads.
  • The colours: they should match the official colourway of the garment and season. Compare with photos of the model.
  • The felt: a dense, clean material, with no fluff or fraying edges.

A badge alone proves nothing

A nice badge may have been taken from another garment or replaced. To know whether an item is authentic, you need to check everything: the Certilogo, the labels, the finishing. Our complete guide: how to spot a fake Stone Island.

Authentic badge or compatible badge: what’s the difference?

There are two different things, and it’s important to be clear:

  • An authentic badge is an original part made by Stone Island. In our shop it is clearly labelled as such, with real photos of the item you will receive. See the authentic Stone Island badge.
  • A compatible badge is an embroidered badge made by another manufacturer, designed to attach to Stone Island garments. It is not an original Stone Island product and is not presented as one. It is used to replace a lost or damaged badge. See our compatible badges.

An honest seller always tells you which of the two they are selling. Be wary of any listing that presents a badge sold on its own at a very low price as “official”.

What if my badge is lost or damaged?

You can replace it easily, without sewing. Read our guide to replacing a Stone Island badge or see the installation guide.
